Palm Springs - The Land of Perpetual Sunshine

One of the best things about living in LA (no, not the traffic) is the ability to escape for weekends to fabulous places and feel like you are in a completely different world. Palm Springs is one of those storied places, and its history is the stuff of pure Southern California legend- think Sinatra, midcentury modern masterpieces a la Richard Neutra, and glamorous Slim Aarons photos of the rich and famous lounging poolside, in the ultimate nod to cocktail culture.  It was all a big party- super chic, laid back, and full of punchy color and style. And with Spring 2012 (and Pantone) declaring orange and yellow as huge colors for body and home, we can’t help but feel inspired by these photos- full of the hues that we’ll all be loving when the days get a little longer again, and just right for Palm Springs and its sunny state of mind.  And the whole midcentury architecture thing just knocks us out- and has inspired everyone from Kelly Wearstler to Jonathan Adler to almost every art director we know. There would be no Dwell Magazine if there were not these fabulous homes – amazing how they still look so contemporary, isn’t it? We’re in the mood for a BBQ, swathed in color, surrounded by the likes of Angie Dickinson, Sinatra, Capote, and maybe drink a cocktail with Cameron Diaz from this Vogue shoot to create a bit of a fashion time machine. Who wants to join us in the land of perpetual sunshine?
